A&C Tile & Stone builds fully tiled, custom walk-in showers and shower pans for homeowners across Fullerton and North Orange County. Every shower we build is engineered for daily heavy use — not just to look great on day one, but to stay solid, drain correctly, and stay dry underneath for the life of the bathroom.
What makes our showers different is what's underneath. We combine traditional mudwork — a hand-packed sand-and-cement mortar bed — with modern waterproofing systems like Schluter and Laticrete. The mudwork gives you a rock-solid, perfectly sloped base. The waterproofing keeps water contained and your subfloor protected. Together, they're the "do it once, do it right" combination most contractors skip.
That's why we back every mud-set shower with our Do-It-Once Mud-Set Shower System — 10-Year No-Leak Guarantee. If the shower base ever leaks or tile cracks due to base movement in the first 10 years, we'll repair it at no labor cost. Most contractors won't put that in writing. We do.
Custom Showers Built for Daily Heavy Use
From a fresh walk-in to a full tub-to-shower conversion, we build showers that hold up to real life.
What's included in every custom shower:
Mud-Set Shower Pans & Waterproofing Done the Right Way
The base is everything. Here's why we still hand-pack mortar beds on the showers where it matters most.
Traditional Mudwork — Hand-Packed Mortar Bed
Instead of dropping in a foam pan or screwing down backer board and calling it done, we hand-pack and shape a custom sand-and-cement mortar bed under your tile. Mudwork lets us flatten out wavy framing and subfloors so tiles sit perfectly flat — no lippage to catch your feet on. We can also dial in exact heights, so transitions to the bathroom floor come out flush.
In the shower, a hand-sculpted mortar bed gives us the perfect slope to the drain so water can't pool. Proper slopes and weep-hole protection help keep the subfloor dry, dramatically reducing the risk of hidden mold, rot, and costly repairs years down the line. The result is a shower base that feels stone-solid underfoot — no spongy flex, no movement.
We pair the mudwork with modern waterproofing systems (Schluter, Laticrete, and similar) to keep water contained and the subfloor protected. It's a premium method, used on showers where you want a "do it once, do it right" result — not an upsell gimmick.

Custom Shower & Shower Pan FAQs
Straight answers to the questions we hear most.
How long does a typical custom shower project take?
Most custom shower builds take 3–5 working days from demo to final grout, depending on tile size, pattern complexity, and whether we're also doing the bathroom floor. We give you a clear timeline before we start and stick to it.
What's the difference between a mud-set pan and a foam or board system?
A mud-set pan is a hand-packed sand-and-cement mortar bed that we sculpt to the exact slope and height needed. Foam pans and backer board systems are pre-made and faster to install, but they can't flatten a wavy subfloor or dial in a custom slope the way mudwork can. Mudwork gives you a rock-solid, perfectly sloped base that stays put.
How does the mud-set method affect my budget?
Mudwork adds labor because we're hand-packing and sculpting the base, but it pays off in flatness, durability, and leak protection. We break down the cost in your quote so you can see exactly where the value is.
Can you work with tile I've already bought?
In most cases, yes — as long as the tile is rated for shower wall or floor use. We'll confirm the material is right for the application before we start.
Do you coordinate with glass companies and plumbers?
Absolutely. We work with your glass installer and plumber to make sure drain placement, curb height, and wall prep all line up so the glass fits and the plumbing works.
Can you build curbless or low-entry showers?
Yes, where the subfloor and layout allow it. Curbless showers need careful planning for slope and waterproofing — we'll let you know what's feasible at your site visit.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes — California Contractor License #1148004 (C-54 Tile & Stone). Fully insured for your protection.
